All of the whisky barrels are individually made by experienced coopers, one oak barrel at a time, and they are WAX (PARAFIN) FREE!
Beware of varnished oak barrels. The varnish can leach into the flavor of your spirit. Mile Hi Distilling will not sell whisky barrels with varnish or wax.

Curing Your oak Barrel First rinse the inside of the oak barrel by filling and emptying 2 times to remove any wood debris. Prior to use, your oak barrel must be filled with water or submerged for approximately 1 to 2 days. This will allow the oak to expand and retain liquid. (the barrel may leak until cured) After this initial curing period, place the barrel on the holder in a dry area. Liquid will continue to slowly drain through the wood for the following 1 to 2 days. Keep the barrel filled during this time. When the oak barrel stops draining, empty the contents and rinse again. You are now ready to fill with your spirits.
